Discovery Park

Worth Discovering

Getting over the flu is not fun. My prescription (and it works every time!) plenty of sun, sand, and salt infused breezes. I may not be feeling 100% yet, but I feel loads better already having spent the afternoon at Discovery Park in Seattle.

Discovery Park is situated along the coast in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. With over 500 acres to wander and miles of trails to trek, this is the outdoor enthusiast's paradise. I came prepared to settle myself into the sand with a good book, but found that in order to arrive at the beach I would have to walk about three miles round trip to do so. The trail was mostly level and occupied primarily by those fitting in an afternoon jog or walking their dogs. When I arrived at the beach I couldn’t believe the beauty and tranquility I found. It was like an oasis in the desert. The beaches were pristine and practically empty. Being difficult to access, the sandy shores were virtually deserted. A ramshackle lighthouse occupied the point and magnificent views of Mt. Rainier could be seen in the distance. Watching the boats make their way through Puget Sound I settled in with my book and waited until the last possible minute to make my way back home. I left feeling rejuvenated and refreshed – the perfect cure for any ailment, and considering I am getting married today, I needed this R & R! :)
